What are the decoration and layout trends in the world of the kitchen in 2023? The kitchen is, this year even more than in previous years, the central point of the house: it is multifunctional, organised, personalized… it has a soul. Let’s discover 2023 kitchen style trends together!

If everything is possible today with incredible choices of creations, the key trends are based on four main styles: minimalist, country-charm, feminine and south-Mediterranean: a wide range of expressions! All based on advanced storage and performance criteria. The colors are more and more joyful and daring, but in a matte version for the soft side. And the island remains unbeatable.

– The minimalism style, synonymous with elegance

In 2023, the minimalist trend is in vogue in the kitchen and is reflected in several ways. First, the absence of handles – or else they are very discreet, as integrated as possible. Also preferably with matte black or brass finishes; they are replaced by a push-and-drop system.

The facades are smooth and uncluttered; even popular woods, such as walnut, are realized in modernized versions on flat surfaces without moldings and frames. In these same minimalist kitchens, the worktop is ultra-thin, in laminate.

In these sober atmospheres, materials are valued. These are rather elitist, architectural and high-end kitchens like Bulthaup. They give pride of place to natural and noble materials, especially wood and brown, green or burgundy veined marble. This type of kitchen enhances a total look of a material and achieves a real anchoring in the material.

Wood is still in trend, but the novelty is the choice of shades that make it possible to change more traditional habits: if light oak remains a best of, striated wood, preferably vertically, settle down. Today, wood is worked in association with materials and colors.

– The charming country style is making a comeback

The exact opposite of the minimalist ‘kitchen box’, fully furnished, full height, giving a built-in impression, the other big trend this year is the country-chic style. This is the big comeback of molded doors with flat beading.

This style bounces back on the bulk trend. It’s very practical to see your stocks in the furniture without having to open them. For these reasons, the ‘charming spirit’ kitchen, with solid cabinets at the bottom and a glazed part at the top, or even shelves, is very popular.

Without extravagance, they are models synonymous with a return to fundamental values and simplicity. These kitchens often have storage spaces specifically integrated for fresh fruit and vegetables, pantry style and wooden shelves.

The farmhouse style is however in the process of changing towards Japandi, which is also more refined.

– The Mediterranean style, influences from the South

The third major kitchen style that stands out in 2023 is the influence of the South, of the Mediterranean, it also concerns the entire decoration of the house, up to the garden.

This style from the South involves materials such as terrazzo, zelliges, concrete floors, terracotta. Certainly the kitchen is less functional, but its beauty relies on authenticity. The terracotta color is king here. This year, it’s even the return of all colors (or almost) in the kitchen!

– Feminine and soft style with Pastel and neutral colors

As for neutral and unconventional colors, the taupe hue is making a comeback. Overall, the color combinations are soft and harmonious and the Nordic/Scandinavian kitchen, white and wood, is shifting this year towards a kitchen with natural and neutral tones, light shades such as light taupe, beige, greige, soft browns, pearl pink, peach.

These pastel colors also correspond to the search for an elegant feminine, in association with materials such as caning, and fittings with a brass, pink copper or bronze finish.

In addition to color, sophistication comes through decorative prints), vegetal or abstract prints. They can be installed on the credenzas or on the fronts of wall units, and allow you to pimp your kitchen by differentiating yourself from monochrome decorations. Fantasy is definitely coming to the kitchen!

Dare the colors! (matts) and prints

White remains the simple solution, we don’t take any risks with it, including in the kitchen! It remains above all on the wall units, which are then almost visually erased by contrast with the colored base units. White is a safe bet, as is black – however, navy blue would now be the new black.

The greens especially are available in all shades this year – sage green, emerald green, celadon – up to khaki and other gray or deep greens. The blues are also a great success, in luminous tones of the ice blue type.

The integration of color expresses the desire to create a friendly and warm kitchen, unlike professional stainless steel kitchens, considered too cold. Matte finishes are widely preferred to gloss and lacquer finishes – on the practical side, fingerprint-free materials are a must.

Ecology takes its place this year

If the home automation kitchen is not yet a reality, ecology fits in when it, in a certain way. For the moment, it mainly involves selective sorting, and working with materials, such as reclaimed wood, PEFC/FSC, or burnt wood, which gives a magnificent effect in the kitchen!.

Panels made of 100% recycled particles are coming onto the market. Appliances are now taken back and recycled.
