Summer Hair Care Routine

Between the sea, the sun and the swimming pool, your hair also takes heat in summer! Just like the skin, in summer your hair is exposed to a high level of UV rays, so it is essential to protect and care for it to avoid any drying out. This summer, say goodbye to the doormat and hello to your dream mane following this summer hair care routine!

Summer Hair Care Routine

Use an anti-uv protective oil or spray

Your hair also needs to be protected in summer because UVA penetrates the hair fiber and damages the keratin present in the hair. Before each exposure to the sun, remember to use a protective hair spray or oil, in the same way that you use sunscreen to protect your skin.

Spray 20cm from dry or damp hair before and/or during exposure. Little bonus: the wavy effect is trendy at the moment, so take advantage of it!

Use a suitable shampoo

In summer, it is better to put aside your usual shampoo in order to opt for a richer and nourishing shampoo, without sulfates, which will nourish the hair without weighing it down, while eliminating the residue of UV filters, salt, chlorine and sand which dry out your hair.

Take care of your hair

Don’t skimp on hair care! You can apply a mask to your hair, once or twice a week, after shampooing on well-dried hair. Leave on for a few minutes then rinse. Your hair will be nourished and ready to tackle another summer day.

You can also opt for a homemade hair mask made with egg, avocado, honey or even olive oil. Leave on for 30 minutes before shampooing.

Don’t forget Oil Bathing

In the evening before going to bed, generously apply vegetable oil (according to your preferences: olive oil, argan oil, coconut oil, etc.) to your lengths and ends. This will give a boost to your hair which will be softer and shinier when you wake up.

Little tip:

Combine coconut oil and castor oil for an oil bath. Heat the material in the palm of your hands to melt the coconut oil. Apply the mixture to dry, detangled hair before going to bed, to your roots, ends and lengths. Gently massage the scalp to stimulate blood circulation. Then, wrap your hair in a warm towel and shampoo the next day. If necessary, shampoo a second time to remove all oil residue.

Avoid Heat in Your hair

At this time of year, your hair is exposed to enough heat that it is not necessary to add a layer with a hairdryer, straightener or curling iron. Take the opportunity to adopt the โ€œbeachy wavesโ€ look, or beach hairstyles, which are very trendy at the moment. But above all, let your hair breathe!

If you really can’t do without heat tools to style your hair, consider protecting it beforehand using a heat-protective spray which will limit damage.

Take supplements

Taking a course of supplements, based on brewer’s yeast for example, before and/or during the summer will strengthen your hair and therefore limit the damage from the sun, salt and chlorine on the hair fiber.

However you need to ask for you doctor’s approval to determine what does your body need exactly.

To maintain beautiful hair this summer, consider taking a trip to the hairdresser at the end of the season to cut your ends and get off to a good start for the following seasons!
