Nestled in the Roaring Fork River, a tributary of the Colorado, the city of Aspen is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, Red Mountain to the North, Smuggler Mountain to the East and Aspen Mountain to the South. It is THE destination for winter sports and even extreme sports.
The destination has long been a vacation spot for the posh. It is therefore not uncommon to meet celebrities there at the bend of a hiking trail or at the Baldwin Gallery.

–Visit Maroon Bells
If you had to choose only one place to visit around Aspen, without hesitation, prefer a getaway to the Maroon Bells. Located 20 kilometers south of Aspen, Bells β Snowmass Wilderness is one of the five famous wilderness areas of Colorado. It is the fourth largest desert in the state at 183,847 acres.
This beautiful natural site is nestled in the Elk Mountains (Mountain Range in Colorado), and extends into the White River and Gunnison National Forests.
The name Maroon Bells, refers to the two mountains (Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak) in the wilderness area. It is the privileged place for mountaineers and hikers.
you can access it with the shuttles or with your car for a fairly ridiculous amount at the entrance to the reserve.
