Essential Oils For The Summer

Essential oils can help us have a good summer and overcome certain summer problems. Mosquitoes, insomnia, feeling of heavy legs, all these problems can be solved with an aromatherapy solution. Let’s discover the essential oils for the summer that will make these months easy for you!

Essential oils for the summer

-Powerful repellents

The essential oil (EO) of lemon eucalyptus (Eucalyptus citriodora) is the one most often recommended as a repellent and as a curative treatment against mosquito bites. Peppermint (Mentha piperita) may also be recommended to relieve stings.

Essential oil blends are also very effective. Here are 2 recipes for mosquito repellents to apply every hour directly to the skin:

Recipe 1:

  • 2ml of lemongrass EO (Cymbopogon Nardus)
  • 2ml of rose geranium oil (Pelargonium Graveolens)
  • 2ml of lemon eucalyptus oil (Eucalyptus citriodora)
  • 25 ml of hazelnut vegetable oil in addition to make 30 ml of mixture1.

Recipe 2

  • 0.3ml of rosewood EO (Aniba rosacea)
  • 0.5 ml of geranium EO (pelargonium)
  • 0.5 ml of lemon eucalyptus EO (Eucalyptus citriodora)
  • 0.2 ml of clove EO (Eugenia caryophyllus)
  • 0.5 ml of rosemary oil (Rosmarinus)
  • 5 ml of hazelnut vegetable oil

Depending on the essential oil or synergy you use against mosquitoes, be sure to remember its duration of effectiveness: some will no longer take effect after 30 minutes.

In terms of application, be aware that certain places, where the blood capillaries are close to the skin in particular, such as the wrists or the back of the ears, should be protected as a priority.

Ceylon cinnamon oil (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) is to be used as an adjunctive treatment in cases of wasp stings and snake bites.

Regain your tone despite the heat and activities

In summer, the heat as well as changes in diet and activities tend to make you more tired. A lack of tone and a feeling of lacking energy and sleep sometimes results. To alleviate this discomfort, it is possible to use essential oils.

Whether in massage, to add a touch of well-being and relaxation or in infusion to rehydrate at the same time, there are invigorating essential oils:

Peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita) helps to alleviate general fatigue. Nervous tonic and recognized anti-fatigue remedy, it is an excellent stimulant.

Ceylon cinnamon essential oil (Cinnamomum zeylanicum). Ceylon cinnamon essential oil is an EO that stimulates blood circulation, the heart, breathing, etc. In infusion, in tablets, diluted in wine, etc. Ceylon cinnamon essential oil can be consumed in various forms.

Rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus officinalis). As an infusion, dissolved in an alcoholic solution, rosemary essential oil helps fight general weakness. Highly energizing, rosemary stimulates both the body and the heart.

Other stimulating essential oils: those of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), sage (Salvia officinalis), thyme (Thymus vulgaris)

Sleep better despite the heat thanks to essential oils

Summer and especially the heat can prevent us from sleeping. Making sure to close your shutters and windows during the day to keep the heat out and taking a cool shower before going to sleep are habits to adopt that can help cope with the change in temperature.

Despite this, we often alternate phases of sleep during which we feel hot then cold. To avoid these inconveniences that prevent us from getting the best rest, certain essential oils should always be in our travel bags:

  • Chamomile essential oil (Anthemis nobilis or Matricaria chamomilla or Matricaria discoidea),
  • lemon EO (Citrus limonum). This essential oil, in addition to being sedative, is refreshing, ideal for hot nights,
  • lavender EO (Lavandula officinalis),
  • marjoram EO (Origanum majorana),
  • lemon balm EO (Melissa officinalis),
  • thyme EO (Thymus vulgaris),
  • scented verbena EO (Lippia citriodora)

Essential oils to cure food poisoning

With heat and humidity, bacteria tend to multiply much faster. During long meals outside, sometimes in direct sunlight, we often leave food out of the refrigerator for too long. Temperature variations contribute to the proliferation of bacteria.

To prevent poisoning, consider:

  • cook your meat sufficiently and wrap it correctly,
  • check the temperature of your refrigerator,
  • wash fruits and vegetables well,
  • wash your hands before handling any food.

Despite all these precautions, it can happen that you get food poisoning. The symptoms are similar to those of gastroenteritis.

The most recommended essential oil for food poisoning remains peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita). It would have an antibacterial action on the Esherichia coli bacteria.
