Exfoliate With Black Soap
Black soap is traditionally used in the East for cleaning the skin. A mixture of oil and black olives macerated in potash, it is a natural product that helps eliminate dead skin. It should preferably be used in a hammam, with a kessa glove, to leave skin soft and purified. Find out how to exfoliate with black soap.
Prepare your skin in the shower
To be really effective, the exfoliation with black soap must be done in a hammam. The heat and humidity help soften the skin, which then promotes the elimination of dead skin.
To properly prepare your skin before exfoliation with black soap:
- Take a lukewarm shower.
- Stay 20 to 30 minutes in the hammam.
The heat and humidity released in the hammam will also allow the dilation of the pores and the elimination of toxins through perspiration.
Apply the black soap on your skin
To properly exfoliate with black soap, you must then apply the soap to the skin. It comes in the form of a more or less brown oily paste.
If you are too hot, you can leave the hammam to apply the black soap.
Take a small amount (the equivalent of a walnut) of soap in the palm of your hand.
Run your hand over the entire body, without pressing too much, to deposit a thin layer of soap on the damp skin. The soap layer should form a barely visible film.
Don’t forget the soles of the feet, the back of the buttocks, the elbows and the knees.
Return to the hammam for 10 minutes to let the soap work. If the hammam has two rooms, alternate warm room and hot room.
Ask another person to apply the black soap to your skin, especially on your back, for better distribution.
Exfoliate your skin with the exfoliating mitt
- After letting the black soap act on the skin, you can exfoliate with the exfoliating glove.
- If you’re too hot, you can get out of the steam room to exfoliate with black soap.
- The more sensitive skin you have, the less pressure you will have to press with the glove.
- Make large circular movements all over the body with the kessa glove. Small particles will form, it is the dead skin that peels off.
- For less accessible areas, such as the back, have someone do the exfoliation.
- For the face, rub gently because the exfoliating glove is very abrasive.
Rinse off, protect your skin and rest
When you have rinsed the whole body:
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm or cold water to remove black soap and dead skin.
- Dry yourself off with a towel.
- Then apply a lotion or, to stay in the oriental tradition, argan oil to nourish and protect your skin.
- Finally, lie down to return to normal body temperature.
