Hot Yoga : The Benefits
During a hot yoga session everything is increased tenfold: the sensations as well as the benefits. Particularly ideal for developing suppleness and flexibility in an environment with controlled temperature and humidity, hot yoga has many variations. A brief overview of hot yoga : the benefits.
Why practice hot yoga?
Often practiced in a silent atmosphere to promote concentration, hot yoga is a practice with many benefits that leaves no stone unturned. However, it is necessary to be in good physical condition before attempting a session and should be avoided in the event of cardiovascular problems.
–Increase flexibility
During a hot yoga session, you quickly realize that you are more flexible. The muscles relax and the joints gain in amplitude. With regular practice, you will quickly gain flexibility.
-Evacuate toxins and calm down
As in a sauna or a hammam, you realize that sweating is good. The heat is relaxing for the body and soothes the mind.
When you come out of a hot yoga class, the stress has been evacuated, you are completely relaxed, you are calmer and more focused, at least for the rest of the day, thanks in particular to the release of feel-good hormones.
–Boost blood circulation
Subjected to a supply of heat, the body and the heart work more, which allows a better circulation of blood and oxygen.
-Losing weight
Hot yoga requires the body to burn more calories to maintain temperature than during the same class at room temperature.
Attention a practice in a very heated room is not insignificant
Take advice from a health professional before starting if you are subject to a heart or circulatory disorder or if you have very low blood pressure, for example.
Make it clear to the teacher that this is your first hot yoga class, and don’t force yourself if you start to feel dizzy, for example.
And drink water whenever allowed during class to help your body regulate itself.
What variants?
The term βhot yogaβ often refers to Bikram Yoga β the first form of hot yoga to be democratized in the West in the 70s and based on the teachings of B. C. Ghosh β or similar styles. The name of Bikram, its very controversial importer, is now abandoned in favor of the more general name of βhot yogaβ. These classes use the same set of 26 dynamic postures and 2 breaths to follow in a humid room heated to around 40Β°.
Hot yoga can also design vinyasa yoga flows, practiced in a room heated rather around 30Β°, often called βHot yoga flowβ.
You can also find βWarm Yin Yogaβ, a Yin Yoga session practiced in a room heated around 30 degrees.
How to prepare?
Hydrate before and during the session, bring your towel, avoid eating before your session.
After the course, do not plan anything important or too physical the first few times. You don’t know how your body will react to this effort. Rest & enjoy!
