Skin Care Routine For Dry Skin
Dry and dehydrated skin are often confused because of their similar symptoms (tightness, redness, flaking, etc.). However, it is important to distinguish between them because they do not require the same care. Find the definition of dry skin here as well as the ideal skin care routine for dry skin with the formulas adapted to this type of skin.
How do you know if you have dry skin?
Dry skin is skin with an almost absent hydrolipidic film, since the sebaceous glands produce little sebum. However, this film plays an essential role in the proper functioning of the skin, since it serves as a protective barrier.
Dry skin is characterized by discomfort all year round, regardless of the weather or the activities you do. It is tight and flakes (i.e. it generates visible dead cells). More fragile and more sensitive, it is more easily marked with redness and can suffer from frequent skin lesions. The skin texture is irregular and rough to the touch.
What is the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin?
Dry skin, dehydrated skin or both? How do you know if your skin is lacking water or fat?
Dry skin is skin that naturally lacks lipids (and therefore fat). It is a type of skin, like combination skin, oily skin and normal skin. If you have dry skin, you may be able to keep it for the rest of your life. How do you recognize it? It feels tight and uncomfortable no matter the season, it flakes and is rough to the touch.
Dehydrated skin is skin that simply lacks water. Water is an essential element in the constitution of our skin and naturally evaporates in a limited way (what is called TEWL (transepidermal water loss)). But when the hydrolipidic film is altered by external factors, such as excessive air conditioning in summer, freezing wind or even skin stripping, this evaporation becomes too significant and the skin becomes red, tight and uncomfortable. By correcting this occasional condition with suitable care (serums, moisturizing creams, etc.), the skin will regain all its comfort.
Note that skin dehydration affects all skin types, from the driest to the oiliest!
What are the right actions to take when you have dry skin?
To regain comfortable and more resistant skin when you suffer from dry skin, it is essential to adopt and banish certain actions! Here is our advice for dry skin:
- Be careful with the products you use when you clean your skin: choose gentle formulas without aggressive surfactants such as milks and, if possible, ones that include natural lipid-replenishing active ingredients. Make up remover oils can also be a great help in removing make up without damaging the skin;
- Also be careful with friction (mask, pillowcase, scarf/snood, etc.), which will irritate and further weaken the skin;
- Avoid overheating your home: cold is the enemy of dry skin, but overheated environments are just as much! Dry ambient air will in turn dry out your skin. So turn down your heating and save energy at the same timeβ¦
- limit facial scrubs: favor scrubs based on fruit acids or very fine grains and ban scrubs with large grains, too irritating;
- provide the lipids that the skin needs to allow it to protect itself and regain comfort, whether by applying skin care enriched with vegetable oils and vegetable butters or through diet, by focusing on foods rich in essential fatty acids, particularly omega-3 (oilseeds, avocado, oily fish, etc.). These famous omegas are important because they help to strengthen the skin barrier by ensuring good cohesion between cells.
Skin care routine for dry skin
–Morning skin routine for dry skin
Step 1 – Cleanse
Like all skin types, dry skin needs to be cleansed. But there is no need to attack it with your usual facial cleanser; in the morning, we focus on gentleness. To do this, simply spray an organic hydrosol or a gentle facial mist directly onto the skin and gently dab with a washable cotton pad after application. Above all, do not rub the skin, as you risk damaging it further! Choose 100% pure and natural organic hydrosols, free of alcohol which dries out.
Step 2 β Moisturize and nourish
Dry skin absolutely needs nutrition, but also hydration. It is therefore essential to include a nourishing moisturizer in your dry skin facial routine that will also protect the skin.
Step 3 β The eye contour
Don’t forget the eye contour, which is also subject to dehydration and devoid of a hydrolipidic film. However, do not use your nourishing moisturizer, which is not suitable for this very fine part of the face, and apply a specific eye contour treatment.

Step 1 β Remove make up and cleanse
In the evening, there is no question of skipping the make up removal and/or cleansing step. Indeed, it is essential to remove make up, get rid of impurities (pollution, dust, etc.) from the day and make it more suitable for the following treatments.
Step 2 β Perfect cleansing
To perfect make up removal, eliminate stubborn impurities and tone the skin, apply your morning hydrosol by spraying it directly on your face, then patting lightly with a washable cotton pad. Avoid rinsing your face with water, especially if it is hard.
Step 3 β Nourish and moisturize
In the evening, take out the famous balm, it deeply nourishes while making the skin supple and less tight. Know that night is the best time to receive a treatment. The skin being less subject to aggressions, it becomes more permeable and therefore more able to receive restorative care. Oily and/or anti-aging serums will be all the more active and beneficial if they are applied before going to bed.
Skin care to be carried out once a week
To soothe your skin and nourish it deeply, use a dry skin mask enriched with vegetable oils and/or vegetable butters, such as shea butter, once a week.
Steps to remember
- Remove make up without rubbing
- Cleanse without attacking
- Nourish and moisturize, day and night
- Stay rigorous and regular
