They presented their Spring/Summer 2023 shows in September and planned our new season wardrobes before we even thought about it. Discover the spring-summer 2023 fashion trends without delay in the following lines.
The spring-summer 2023 fashion trends
2022’s obsession with all things fuchsia gives way to a softer, pastel version of pink. While black and cobalt blue will be the surprise hues of the season. Low rise waists and sheer fabrics will be plenty for those looking for something a little sexy. While spring’s breakthrough florals will be three-dimensionally enhanced.
– The hooded dress
Who remembers the sublime Grace Jones sporting a pink hooded dress at the Alaïa Couture spring-summer 1986 show. Or the one she wore in the movie “James Bond: A View to a Kill” (1985)? After last winter’s resolutely sportswear balaclava, the hooded dresses back, an iconic creation by Azzedine Alaïa. The hooded dress is sure to give you a haughty look and sophisticated dress worthy of an ancient vestal virgin. Surprising in a long, flowing evening dress version at Saint Laurent and Alberta Ferretti, a disco-style mini-dress with a plunging neckline at Versace, a pastel shaded tunic worn over black trousers at Salvatore Ferragamo or a draped model minimalist at Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini. What will be your choice ?
– Cargo pants
From the military field to the catwalks of Fashion Week, it is the consecration for cargo pants. This trend that has supplanted jeans in the hearts of influencers. Streetwear piece with excellence borrowed from the Y2K years, everyone loves the comfort of its baggy cut and its functional utility wear side with multi-pockets. In addition to the “classic” beige or khaki colours, you can also find it in denim finish, in satin material, in flare cut , in bermuda version and/or camouflage pattern. Will you succumb to it?
– Denim
The essential denim is a recurrence on the catwalks and it is still honored this season. Versatile, it is available on many pieces for a look that is both casual chic and streetwear. Maxi long skirt, cargo, jeans, jacket, shirt, corset, bustier and bra. In a nod to the 90s and 2000s, you can wear it as a total look in a washed-out, bleached, vintage, torn/ripped grunge-style, structured or patchwork finish. For an optimal effect, you can associate it with white, beige, pastel or fluorescent shades. On the jeans side, favor the low waist (not suitable for all body types) and loose, boyfriend and flare cuts.
– 3D Artsy optical illusions
The arty trend takes on a whole new dimension this season with effective and surprising optical illusions! Like Y/Project, Off-White, Alexander McQueen and Bottega Veneta, each designer declines his collection around a recurring theme. This comes as an homage to the Renaissance at Balmain.
– The heart pattern
Even though the season starts at the end of March, one of the key trends for spring-summer 2023 has a bit of an air of February 14th. The heart-shaped designs we saw on many catwalks in September, are now everywhere from hips to legs, chest to hems.
The crush goes to the quirky humor of Moschino, which has accessorized part of its collection with mini red vinyl inflatable hearts, applied to jackets, skirts, dresses, shoes, handbags, or worn as clip-on earrings.
– flower patterns
More theatrical than the usual spring bloom, this season will see the classic trend take on a more three-dimensional role. Emerging from shirts, shoulders and even the torso. Sure, that last point might be a bit too much for a quiet dinner with friends. However those unafraid of a standout fashion moment can’t go wrong with this one.
– Crochet
This chic bohemian look and artisanal charm borrowed from the Seventies is admirable. For the fifth consecutive year, the trend of crochet, macramé and fishing net (fishnet) will punctuate the summer outfits as seen at Isabel Marant, Alberta Ferretti, Elie Saab, Chloé, Zimmermann, Hermès.
In city mode or by the sea in the Saint-Tropez spirit, it comes in long dresses, tunics, tank tops, camisoles, shorts, swimsuits, preferably in natural tones (ecru, ocher, brown). We also don’t forget the crochet or macramé bag, mini version carried on the shoulder (Celine) or large beach tote, essential accessory to perfect your look!
– Sequins
While glitz season traditionally falls in December to coincide with the seemingly endless flow of the holiday season, 2023 turns the rules upside down and declares that spring/summer is the perfect time for a bit of glitz and glamour. For summer 2023, the trend is for a softer and lighter color palette, with pale pinks, nudes and pastels that will be the most prolific.
– See-through
Femininity is extolled through games of see-through more or less subtly revealing bodies at Chanel, Tory Burch, Acne Studios, Valentino, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, Versace, Prada, Christian Dior and Miu Miu. In line with the trend of sheer lingerie, designers use a plethora of transparent materials to display underwear: fishnet, lace, tulle, gauze, muslin, veil, organza, light knit. Like the favorite it-girls, the most daring will opt for the naked dress (literally “naked dress”) which leaves little to the imagination (Saint Laurent, Victoria Beckham, Nensi Dojaka) while the more sages will choose the naked top to wear under a blazer or a perfecto. There is no doubt that this suggested or exacerbated sensuality will raise the temperature this summer!
– Boudoir details
Perhaps you should not try this at the office, this year promises to be very sexy with boudoir details in the foreground of evening wear.
– Fringes
Fringe, of course, is nothing new, but this familiar design accent will be very present next season. From fringed cuffs that start at the elbow, to fully fringed dresses, to fringed clutches, we’ll see fringe everywhere.
– Gothic chic
The success of Wednesday (Daughter of the Addams Family) series on Netflix is no stranger to the craze around this dark, romantic aesthetic. If the black monochrome remains de rigueur at Chanel, Burberry, Paco Rabanne, it is punctuated with purple and fuchsia at Versace. Favor games of transparency, overlays, asymmetrical cuts and the contrast of materials, whether raw or delicate: lace, leather, tulle, vinyl, fishnet, latex, velvet, embellished with silver metal jewelry. The Gothic 2.0 woman is glamorous, sometimes ingenuous or vamp, sometimes rebellious or diva. Like her heroines, she will adopt the trend that looks like her: Renaissance inspiration in voluminous petticoats at Christian Dior, sexy-trash version in garter belts and corset belt at Dolce & Gabbana, refined couture version at Alexander McQueen.
– Biker style
A leather mini-skirt, a short jacket with a high collar, a pair of boots or thigh-high boots, this is the ideal panoply of the biker seen by the creators (Versace, Gucci, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Courrèges, Chloé). The key piece is the leather biker jacket, very fitted or on the contrary maxi voluminous, available in all forms: classic perfecto, bomber jacket, aviator jacket, cropped version baring the belly or quilted armor style. While black leather is preferred, there are two-tone versions with inserts in white, lemon yellow (Chloé), colbat blue (Off-White), tangerine (Dion Lee), or colored leather, such as the crocodile-effect caramel leather model offered by Trussardi. To perfect the rebellious look, bet on pieces with a large reinforcement of zips, buckles, rivets and press studs.
– Low Rise
The favorite ’90s low rise is back in style. With everything from jeans to suits, shorts to party skirts, getting the low-rise treatment, it looks like the high-waisted trend might be taking an extended sabbatical for summer 2023.
