Golden Hour Skincare: The Summer Skincare Routine for Glowing, Healthy Skin

Day three, and we’re going underneath yesterday’s makeup post to talk about what’s actually happening on my skin this summer. My golden hour skincare routine is the foundation everything else in this series’ beauty stretch depends on.
Golden Hour Skincare: Morning to Night
The whole theme this season is lightweight. Anything heavy just sits on top of sunscreen and makeup and turns the entire face greasy by noon — so every single product in this summer skincare routine earned its spot by being genuinely light.
Morning Routine
- Gentle cleanse — nothing stripping, just enough to remove overnight buildup
- Antioxidant serum for a little extra protection against sun exposure
- Lightweight gel-cream moisturizer
- SPF, reapplied by early afternoon without fail
Evening Routine
- Double cleanse after a day spent outside
- Gentle exfoliating step, two to three times a week
- A slightly richer moisturizer to replace what heat and AC strip out during the day
The One Switch That Mattered Most
Swapping my usual moisturizer for a gel-cream formula changed everything this summer. Same hydration, none of the heaviness. If you only make one change from this post, make it that one.
Pro Tip: Keep your facial mist in the fridge all summer. A cold spritz mid-afternoon does more to reset a tired, overheated face than any product reapplication.
FAQ: Summer Skincare
Q: Should I skip moisturizer if my skin gets oily in summer? A: No — skipping it usually backfires and makes skin overcompensate. Just switch to a lighter, gel-based formula instead of cutting the step entirely.
Q: How often should I actually exfoliate in summer? A: Two to three times a week is plenty. Sun exposure makes skin more sensitive, so more than that can do more harm than good.
Q: Is SPF really necessary on cloudy summer days? A: Yes, always — UV rays pass through cloud cover, and this is genuinely the step that protects everything else in this routine long-term.
Final Thoughts
Summer skin is honest skin — heat and sweat show every skipped step immediately. This routine is the direct result of a few too many breakouts in June before I simplified everything down to what actually matters.
